It’s that time of year again, both mentally and physically you have been exhausted from the long winter season. While we have been relatively lucky this year in London, Ontario, there is no doubt that many of us need to do some spring cleaning! Whether prepping your home to sell in the London, Ontario real estate market or simply wanting to make your home more inviting for guests, listen up because we are going to share five tips to get your home ready for spring!
1. Add Some Colour
In winter you frequently want to make things a little darker and cozy inside your home. Spring is the exact opposite, get rid of the dark colours and bring out the light blues, yellows and oranges. Now don’t go too crazy, you don’t need to paint the walls every season, but try to find something that works well with the room you are in. Simply replacing blankets, throw cushions or rugs with a brighter colour could make an incredible change to a room. In the kitchen you could try replacing the towels or even the dishes and add some indoor colourful plants.
2. Get Dusting
Okay so you have been inside with a lack of sunlight for quite some time. You know what this means, DUST and lots of it! The windows have been shut and the furnace has been on, meaning that dust in your house is staying there. Now that the sun is coming out more frequently, and the windows will be open, the dust will be very obvious and unappealing for guests. If you want to create a home where people feel comfortable, pull out that duster and get cleaning.
3. Christmas was months ago!
This goes without saying but the Christmas season was months ago, it’s time to pack away the snowmen, Christmas lights and Santas! Put them away in storage and pull them out again when the time comes. Don’t worry though, we understand time got ahead of you, but if you really want to be in the spring season make sure you go all in.
4. Clean the Screens
Now some homes don’t have to worry about this, but for those of us who have screens, you would be shocked to see how clear they can be. Take a couple hours on a Saturday or Sunday and wash those window and door screens down. It’s almost like getting that new pair of eyeglasses, you can finally see again. Side note, when you open your windows just think of the dirt that is coming through your screens if they are not clean.
5. Get Started on that Outdoor Oasis
Everyone knows that you need to start planting in the spring to get your garden ready for the Summer, but remember to get started as early as you can and make sure that you are clear from the frost. What plants you choose depends on your garden but I sure do love the smell of roses! It’s also never too early to pull out your patio furniture, if you have it tucked away in your basement or covered on your deck, uncover them and show your Spring spirit! You never know with the weather we have been having, you may want to sit outside and get an early start on that tan. Just think of how much further ahead you will be then the neighbours.
6. Do a Check-up
After a season of cold and now wet weather, it’s important to make sure that your home is in good working order. Do a walk around of your house and check for any potential issues in the foundation, roof, windows, doors and of course the basement. Catching issues early on may save you thousands down the road if fixed correctly. Not only will this ensure you save money but also make sure that you will be able to enjoy the season not having to worry about issues later on.
After a long winter, regardless if you do any of these tips or all of them, just remember to have fun. The warm weather doesn’t last long and with the crazy spring and summer London, Ontario real estate market ahead, you want to make sure that you get some time to enjoy what you have.
