As a first time home buyer, you have plenty of places to start your home search. Is searching for a home the first thing you should be doing, or are there other things you should be doing first?

The internet has made it very easy for people to start searching for a home to buy. Whether you are a first time home buyer, or have already been through the process, the internet has an abundance of information and homes for sale. After all, you did find this searching somewhere!
Should you start looking at listed homes for sale right away, or are there other things you could be doing to prepare for the process? I would suggest you speak to some home owners and find out how the process of buying a home went for them, and what things they would change. Find out what Realtors were used, and who they would recommend, along with mortgage agents, home inspectors and lawyers. Gather information, and interview the people that will be potentially working for you. That’s right. Working for you. You should have the final say. That’s not to say you shouldn’t listen to the professionals you hire to work for you. Just make sure you hire the right people to do the job.
Not all agents, inspectors and lawyers are equal. Just because someone is licenced to do something, doesn’t mean they do it well. After all, just spend a few minutes driving around London and you know what I mean. Hopefully all those drivers have licences.
